How is my music distributed?

You provide us with as little as 5 copies of your product.  Digitalcuts.com will create a "home" page for you that will be available within our site.  On that page, we will include a color photo of you, a bio or promotion piece that you provide to us, links to each of your products, links to your personal web site and email (if applicable), and links to where you can be seen.  We will also image your "album" art work and put that online with track titles.  We will include 2 Real Audio samples so that consumers can preview your music.  Consumers can purchase your music by simply selecting a "buy" icon and add it to a shopping cart.  Checkout is automated.  We ship your product, collect the fees, and send you your money.  When our inventory gets low we'll let you know and you simply send us additional copies to sell.

Do I need to commit to a long term agreement?

Absolutely not!  One of the founding principles of the company is to put the power back into the artist hands and not in the hands of corporate executives.  We require no long term commitment.  If you wish to terminate your membership, for any reason, you simply notify us in writing with a 30 day advance notice (to account for any outstanding orders) and we will honor your request.

How am I paid?

DigitalCuts.com will track all your sales for you.  Once a quarter, we will send you a statement detailing what was sold along with a check.  Quarters are based on a fiscal year (End of March, End of June, End of September, End of December).

What media can be distributed ?

What does DigitalCuts.com make on a sale?

DigitalCuts.com receives a commission on a sale based on the selling price.  The rates are $2, $3, or $4 per CD or Cassette.  Consider the following:

Conventional recording contracts with mainstream record companies usually net the artist between 6 and 10 cents per CD depending on how popular the artist is.

DigitalCuts.com bears all the costs associated with the hosting and sale of your music including hosting fees, digital certificates for security, on-line credit card validation and verification, transactional fees for each order, credit card processing fees, shipping and handling, stocking and restocking fees including replacements for damaged jewel cases, web site promotional fees, marketing fees, and bank charges.  When all is said and done, DigitalCuts.com makes about $1.00 on a $10 CD.

Do I need to provide my music free of charge?

No.  We recognize that you work hard to write and produce your music.  We will never ask you to provide music for downloading free of charge.

Will DigitalCuts.com provide MP3 Files?

Yes.  Today, DigitalCuts.com provides the artist the ability to decide if they want to provide a free MP3 song.  This is provided when a new release is highlighted on our home page.  DigitalCuts.com is investigating providing MP3 formats that can be sold and downloaded using our on-line store.  Look for future announcements regarding that capability.
