| 8th Wave
brings very high energy and a degree of shock value to each and every show
they play. The hyper-active 6-piece ska/punk/pop/rock band from
Lincoln, Nebraska was formed back in June of 1997, but after a year and a
half of rocking the band broke up to the disappointment of nations.
While mothers held their weeping children, saddened by their loss, its
members went on to practically hate each other and hardly spoke for over a
year. After that year on bad terms, full of lawsuits, scandals,
restraining orders, and death threats, 8th Wave decided that they really
didn't hate each other as much as they thought, and the band was magically
pulled back together.
Within just weeks of the regrouping, the band
stumbled upon, and adopted Jimbo Wave, a new trombone player, mascot, and
young ska goofball, to replace the former trombone player who is now a
diagnosed schizophrenic, no longer fit to rock. Shortly after that,
they found a new singer they could tolerate and enjoy listening to,
playing with, and looking at, the young attractive sensation, Kris
Wave. On May 6th of the year 2000, at their favorite local venue
Knickerbockers, the long awaited and highly anticipated reunion show was
held in front of a large crowd of fans, both new and old.
The rock has been non-stop ever since. Within
just weeks of the reunion show, 8th Wave captured the attention and
respect of punk-rock entrepreneur, Thad Steady, of Omaha's Indianburn
Records. Since then, they have made friends with and had an
abundance of terrific area punk bands to play with. However, the
band has not limited themselves to only playing with ska/punk bands; their
music spans outside those genres and contains elements of pop/rock/funk
and even metal, as well as ska and punk. They like to at least think
that their music is accessible to all. Therefore, they are willing
to play at nearly any venue with any band and are quite eager to travel,
even if it's to places that they, or anyone else, for that matter, have
ever heard of.
Although Lincoln is their hometown, they have
quickly realized that the Omaha scene offers more support. A central
goal of theirs is to bridge the gap between those scenes; therefore they
bring several talented and popular Omaha bands to Lincoln to share the
stage with them, as often as possible. A strong Internet presence is
very important to the band as well; 8thwave.com averages a very impressive
number of hits. Throughout 8th Wave's career they have earned
opening slots for national acts such as, The Hippos, Ann Beretta, Slow
Gherkin, Dial-7, the Mad Caddies, Johnny Socko, the Phunk Junkeez, and
Five Iron Frenzy. They released a new 6 track EP this fall, sales
have been great and things keep continuing to get better and better. |
