| Brian Cline Band is a
blend of styles and individuals. Stylistically, the music has been
categorized as "acoustic pop", "alternative", and
"modern rock". Their unique sound comes from a number of
influences; pop, acoustic, americana, alternative, folk, progressive,
funk, and 60's to 90's rock. The band plays approximately 150 dates a year
ranging from concerts and festivals, to nightclubs, and corporate events. BCB
is comprised of Andrew Lion, who plays a melodic and funky
five-string fretless bass, Rob Sherman, who adds his stylish slide
and wah-wah textures on electric guitar, Paul Batres, who holds
down the groove on drums and percussion, and Brian Cline who plays
acoustic guitar and leads the band’s four-part harmonies with a powerful
and passionate voice. BCB's lyrics are positive, introspective, and
heartfelt, all being derived from personal experiences.
In most bands, usually the singer winds up
going solo. BCB did things the other way around. The vision started
in 1997 when Brian, on his own, was playing shows and writing songs on his
acoustic guitar. Unable to find musicians to share the vision, Brian
released Hold the Keys on his own Dionysongs (pronounced
'Die-O-Knee-Songs') label. The CD took almost a year to record and
includes 10 originals and 2 bonus tracks. On the recording, Brian served
the role of producer, co-engineer, played most of the acoustic and
electric guitars, and performed all vocal, bass, keyboard, and electric
cello parts on the disc. In February of 2000 the album was re-released
nationally and in Japan by Icourse Recordings with distribution
through Valley Media/DNA, the world's largest independent distributor.
Despite being released by an independent record label, all the major
retail chains and online stores picked up the release for their stores.
In March 2000, the band hit New Music Weekly and FMQB
charts, at #40 and #81 respectively, with the release of the
first single "Hold the Keys". Most notably, "Hold
the Keys" came in #3 nationwide for most added song on the week of
its release. The success of BCB and Hold the Keys has
attracted numerous TV/Film placements (Another World, Guiding Light,
IMAX, MTV, Odyssey Channel, VH-1), publishing deals (Bug Music,
Mastersource), commercial and college radio airplay across the
country, press reviews, interviews, and feature articles, and artist
endorsements (Taylor, DW, Dean Markley, Zon). More importantly, it
has allowed him to build a loyal audience and sell thousands of CDs
nationally and internationally.
BCB’s songs are well crafted and
meaningful. The first single and title cut from the CD, "Hold the
Keys" is a strong statement and a positive message of
self-empowerment. "Something to Tell" is a love song
Brian wrote for his wife Diane. "What's That Do For Me?"
is a sarcastic look at selfish love. "Eye of the Storm",
is a song about forbidden passion. "Joe", was inspired by
Brian's grandfather, as he faced a life-threatening disease.
BCB is writing, rehearsing, and
performing new material in preparation of a follow-up release expected in
late 2000. The band adds more edge and influences to the new
material, but Brian still is on acoustic guitar. There are no boundaries
to the new vision, only what the group finds interesting. |

"Though I'm no stranger to Brian
Cline's music, I have to say that I am extremely impressed with this album. The
music of this band has progressed
ten fold since the last album. Their "modern rock with an acoustic
edge" style is even more infectious and pop/rock sensible than before. The
songs are also very well written with great lyrics, vocals, and musicianship.
It's very rare that I like every song on an album, but this album did come very
close. The Brian Cline Band can be very proud of this effort, and expect a lot
of critical acclaim for their accomplishment. Music fans should be head over
heals for this music, as well. It's just that damn good. This is definitely an
album that I'll be listening to more." Written by Michael Allison - The
Global Muse
