The Songwriters — The Coreys and Dennis Kahler
Tales of the New West
is the result of over a decade of C & W songwriting by the four Coreys:
Arthur and Margie, and Sharon and Alton. Art and Alton Corey are brothers
who have been writing songs for over 25 years, and during most of that
time co-writing several tunes with Alton’s wife, Sharon, who also has an
extensive canon of her own poetry. Art’s wife, Margie, also an
accomplished writer of poems and verses, joined the song writing effort in
1993, making more contributions to the group’s growing body of material.
Their most notable effort to date was the 1994 indie hit "Dark Desert
Sky" recorded by Bill Scarbrough. Dennis Kahler, who wrote or
co-wrote the lyrics to three of the songs on this CD (#1, 2, and 6) is a
long-time friend and co-writer who has compiled a significant list of
songwriting credits on his own and currently is the President of the
Alabama Songwriters Association. Dennis has often collaborated with the
Coreys several times over the past four years. The Coreys can be contacted
at sharomarmusic@aol.com or
(626) 858-9274. Dennis can be reached at (256) 352-4873.
The Singer — Buddy Jewell
Buddy Jewell is an accomplished
singer/songwriter of pop, rock, and country ballads who has paid his dues
singing in dance halls and honky tonks from Dallas to Denver. A native
Arkansan, Buddy has made a significant impact as a vocalist in Nashville,
where he has become one of the most recognizable names and voices in the
"Music City" recording community. He has recorded a wide array
of demonstrational tunes for many of the music industry’s top
songwriters, including Don Schlitz, Carol Bayer Sager, Steve Seskin, Mark
D. Sanders, and the godfather of country tunesmiths, Harlan Howard.
Buddy’s rich and passionate tenor
voice and commanding stage presence have earned him high marks as a singer
who can dramatize a song in the tradition of the great western balladeers.
Buddy’s voice was featured on two of comedian Bill Engvall’s hit
singles/videos: "I’m a Cowboy" and "Hollywood Indian
Guide," and he has opened in concert for Alabama, as well as appeared
on TNN’s "Crook & Chase. Buddy’s vocal performances have
drawn tremendous acclaim this Spring on the "Nashville Star"
singer/songwriter contest airing weekly on Saturday nights on the USA
Channel. Buddy Jewell can be contacted at his email address: buddy@buddyjewell.com
or at his website address: www.buddyjewell.com
Contributing Arrangers and Performers
Also contributing as producers on Tales of the New West are Denny
Martin, Steven Cooper, and Ed Tree, each of whom offered vital creative
concepts as well as virtuoso playing on the specific songs they arranged
(Denny arranged songs 3 & 8; Steven arranged song 10, and Ed arranged
song 12). All manage their own respective recording studios: Denny Martin
can be reached at (615) 361-6073; Ed Tree at (323) 256-2771; and Steven
Cooper at (615) 952-2138. The band musicians and the excellent harmony
vocals (most were performed by the incomparable tenor Joey Scarbury) are
credited and noted in detail in the CD booklet. Thanks to all!

Final Mastering and Production — Marty Rifkin
Marty Rifkin is a highly-respected multi-instrumentalist and producer,

define a song. The tasteful mixes and subtle balances achieved on Tales
of the New West were the result of Marty’s production of the
final master. He plays pedal steel, acoustic and electric guitar, dobro,
and numerous other instruments. He performed on all the instruments
featured on the songs he arranged, unless otherwise noted in the CD
booklet. Marty has recorded with such notable artists as Bruce Springsteen,
Elton John, Jewel, Tom Petty, Dwight Yoakam, and many others. As a
producer, Marty owns and operates the successful Rifkin Productions in
Santa Monica, California. A sampling of his many clients includes Smokey
