| Jayme Koerselman
has always been involved in music.. from the time he was 4 years old
taking piano lessons to winning the outstanding soloist in the Iowa Jazz
Championships in high school to graduating with a music degree from
Belmont University in Nashville.
Saxophone became his love early in high school and is
what he concentrates on mainly. A distinct love for classic jazz, as
well as today's outstanding players, has formed a style that hints of both
a desire to move forward musically but also a love of yesterday.
This is his first album with one of his first compositions, the title
track, Winter's Day. "For me it's a song that reminds me of my
youth, growing up in Iowa in the middle of a bleak winter's morning,
waking up and
having the day be frigid, cold, and dark but also so crisp and clear I
felt more alive there then anywhere else. The first part of the song
has the dark, edgy sound of that day with a surprise at the end.
It's funny how on those really cold days the sun would almost always shine
and everything would be still later in the day... it really would be a
beautiful day. That's how the song ends.. with the sun coming out." |
