Julie Lord’s
style is hard to define, but take a large helping of blues, mix it with
some jazz-funk and throw in a few R&B rhythms and you may be getting
close.
After touring local folk and blues clubs in
a duo, Julie fronted the band ‘Crossfire’ which gigged over 200 times
around London and the home counties of England. Highlight of this period
was when the band supported Sir Cliff Richard before an audience of 3000.
Having moved north, Julie quickly got
established on the Newcastle music scene with the band ‘Heart & Soul’
playing mostly her own material.
When Heart & Soul went the way of all
bands, she decided to go solo singing covers in hotels and clubs, but this
changed considerably when she had a call from Andy Curtis of Griffin
Studios to do some session work.
In return he recorded an original track of
Julie’s, and they quickly developed a musical rapport and songwriting
partnership which culminated in the album ‘Lifetime’.
Before the album was finished, Brian
Taylor of New Dawn Music liked what he heard and it was released under
that label to excellent reviews. See Julie’s website: www.julielord.co.uk
for reviews and features.
Julie now gigs with Andy Curtis on
keyboards and programming, and the audience reaction has been fantastic.
"People really seem to like this kind of music" she says.
Check it out for yourself. If you’re
feeling laid back and fancy some bluesy, jazzy, funky stuff with dusky,
sultry vocals, look no further…
