See Jim Live

"A talented solo acoustic guitarist specializing in Celtic, New Age and World influenced original music. His influences range from traditional sources like Turlough O'Carolan to modern guitar pioneer, Michael Hedges. Jim's playing is clear and soulful - his guitar is well recorded and generates a clean, excellent tone." - InstrumentalMusic.com

"Solo acoustic guitar music combining Celtic, New Age and World influences, great to unwind with at the end of a long day." - Derek Sivers, CDBABY.com

One of the quotes about me, talks about the influences in my music of Will Ackerman and Ralph Towner, but goes on to say that I am no copycat, that I am successful in defining my own harmonic space in the solo guitar genre. This means a lot to me, as it's really clear who has influenced me over the years, yet I've really tried to find and follow my own muse and voice.

The late Michael Hedges, who not a day goes by that I don't think about, was a tremendous influence for me. Yet I've really tried to be moved more by the initial sense of awe and excitement that I got when I first heard him and his wonderful sense of harmonic color, instead of trying to discover his technique or songs. Those qualities I try to carry on and define in my own voice.

If you successfully blend fingerpicking American folk blues with Celtic melodies and Indian raga improvisation, you've got Jim Goodin. He is playing out of so many sources that he sounds exactly like himself. He produces a flowing river of sound that you can listen to straight through or dip in and out of as you write, paint or create new ideas. The best recommendation for his music is all the people who come up to me when I play his CD at my school: "Who is that playing - I feel so good hearing it." I've owned this CD from its first edition, and its synthesis of originality and timelessness keeps it new and pleasing.
