Churchgoers know
Sunday best as a day of prayer and rest. But every Sunday afternoon,
while patrons enjoy a sumptuous Sunday Brunch Buffet, including breakfast
favorites, made-to-order omelet's and pastas, Kathy Grant Mahon, with her
new band, Chosen delivers the dessert. “Patrons stand on chairs and wave
napkins frantically in the air -they’re not asking for more maple syrup,
they’re enjoying the stirring gospel music of Kathy Grant Mahon and her
band Chosen” (Andrea Macko – Centretown News). Kathy and Chosen
sing “their spiritual praises” of Gospel standards and original music,
encompassing many different styles of music including jazz, blues, rock
'n' roll and pop - all performed with a gospel base.
Kathy received her training from Rex Le Lacheur and the
Kodaly School of Music before going on classical studies with Rose
Spraggon. A renowned classical soloist, Rose was trained by Maureen
Forrester, Canada’s premiere Contralto. After graduating with a
Vocal Performance degree from Brock University in 1988, Kathy was awarded
Most Outstanding Female Vocalist at the Association of Gospel Music
Ministries' Golden Note Awards that same year. A consummate musician,
singer and songwriter, Kathy has advanced the visibility of Canadian
Gospel music by performing extensively throughout Canada, the USA, Jamaica
and Europe. She has shared stages with international Christian and Gospel
recording artists Kirk Franklin, Ricky Dillard & New G., Hezekiah
Walker and the Love Fellowship Choir, Commissioned, O’Landa Draper,
Vicki Winans, appeared at the World Famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem, New
York (televised on "Showtime at the Apollo") and toured
Europe with legendary Blues, Gospel singer and actress, Linda Hopkins as
member of the Portugese tour of the Harlem Gospel Singers.
"Kathy Grant Mahon, Praise & Worship, Vol.
1", a collection of standard hymns, was released in 1993 with airplay
on radio stations throughout Ontario, and Jamaica. Mahon is now back in
the studio working on a new project and her expertise in vocal music
training continues to place her in demand at Christian Music conferences
throughout North America.
Kathy Grant Mahon and Chosen make Bravo Bravo’s Sunday
Gospel Brunch, "Ottawa's Most Heavenly Brunch Experience".
It’s a “most incredible soulful performance” (Ian Nathanson –
Ottawa Sun). A concept made famous in New York City, it is the first
of its kind in the city of Ottawa and currently the only regular 'Gospel
gig' in Canada.
Experience these brilliant and enthusiastic performers
as they “extoll the virtues of Jesus” (Chris Cobb - The Ottawa
Citizen). You too will be “blown away” by the “wonderful
uplifting feelings and emotions that come across to the audience”.
Reservations are highly recommended due to shows being “Souled Out”!
