| On May 31st,
1995 I was watching inside Edition on TV. I was drawn to the screen
by a nine month ole baby gird banging her head on her crib because she had
no-one to hold her. Like most people, I usually can't bear to watch
scenes like these because of feeling so helpless. This day, I
watched the whole piece on orphans in Sarajevo through a flood of
tears. This baby girl especially stole my heart. She was named
number 8 and I immediately came up with a name; she would not be know as
Lily. I contacted Inside Edition and asked if I could help in any
way, maybe write some music for a follow-up program or put on a benefit
concert. I was greeted very warmly and was introduced by phone to
Dr. Jack Mirabile. Dr Jack runs "The Holy Family Adoption and
Relief Services, Inc.", a non-profit organization out of Gainesville,
Georgia. After talking with him many times, I decided to organize a
benefit concert and give the proceeds to him for medical aid, food, and
clothing, which would be distributed to orphans in Bosnia just like
Lily. My next step was to call my friend Steve Howe and ask him to
write a song with me for Lily. Lily's in the Field was born,
a tribute to these innocent victims of war in hopes that one day
they will be able to run through the fields and play like children of the
free world. I look at Lily as the surrogate for all the children and
people of Bosnia-Herzegovina and former Yugoslavia and pray for her every
night. I look at her picture and gently tell her not to bang her
head, that I am with her, and everything will be alright. If Lily
does not survive, in her short, tiny life she will have brought many
people together in peace and live.
My wish is to held her in my arms and tell her I
love her.
God Bless Lily. Lily's in the Field.
