With the release of Divorce Records recording artist Rick
Monroe's second CD, "Shame," it is apparent that he
is a young singer/songwriter with a wealth of material ranging from swampy
blues to Celtic ballads. Monroe presents a point of view that is at
once autobiographical and universal. As an adept and sensitive
storyteller, he captures and shares the experiences that make up moments
in live, framing them in irresistible, guitar-driven hooks and compelling
bass and drums. To Monroe's credit, he is able to be diverse while
always maintaining a flavor and sound that is his own. Rick
describes his music as "Blue Jean Rock n Roll." "Like
blue jeans, it never goes out of style."
Rick's debut CD, "Legends Diner," produced two Gavin
Adult Contemporary singles, "Day by Day" and "Life
Goes On In LA." His first single from "Shame",
"Can I Call You Home," reached number 19 on the charts.
Both of Monroe's CDs feature an amazing collection of musicians from Chicago
- The Texas Tornados, Sir Douglas Quintet, and members from
the bands of Billy Joel, Alanis Morissette, and Clint
Black. In addition, Rick's first video for "Life Goes On In LA"
beat out 400 competitors to win the Gold Star Award at World Fest Houston
in 1998. Monroe and his newly formed band, Possum, are currently in the
studio working on and album scheduled for a summer 2000 release.
Rick has toured the US extensively over the past 3 years, resulting in
over 100 live radio and 30 television performances including,
Entertainment Tonight, E!, News Daily, KTLA in Los Angeles, and WGN-TV in
Chicago. Rick's summer tour called the "20/20/20 Tour"
covered 20 states, 20,000 miles, and reached more than 20 million
viewers. Rick and his band traveled to Bosnia to perform for US and
NATO troops and in July, they will be performing in Hanoi, Vietnam as part
of a US cultural exchange.
Growing up in Florida, Monroe's musical influences were The Allman
Brothers, Tom Petty, Jim Croce, and the Rolling Stones. Check out
