Close your eyes and travel back in time ...... the year was 1978...
progressive rock bands such as Yes, Genesis, ELP, and Kansas were on the
top of the charts. Now imagine a progressive band with screaming
precision guitar, keyboard texturing, a wall of sound, and
theatrics. There you have it ... Andromeda!
Andromeda was a five piece progressive rock band that played concerts
around the NYC area. The band consisted of:
Bob Evola - organ, piano, synthesizers, orchestron, acoustic
guitar, effects, and vocals
Alex Futter - double neck guitar, 6 & 12 string guitars,
acoustic guitar, effects, and vocals
Gary Woolcott - drums, percussion, acoustic guitar, effects, and
vocals
Chris King - bass, bass pedals, acoustic guitar, flute, and
vocals
Greg Weiss - lead vocals, guitar, and percussion
Together, they blended ideas from several different styles of music to
achieve an uncommon blend of both American and English progressive
rock. Andromeda was together for several years and also played under
the name, Pleasant Dreams. They appeared throughout the NYC
area theaters and clubs such as Max's Kansas City, The Place, Bottoms, the
Actor's Playhouse, and Rising Sun. Check out their only album and
see what the rave was all about.
