Modern-day
guitar pop is a funny thing. The elements and attitudes all seem fairly
obvious from the outside, yet many writers fall short of the hooks and
structures they need to propel themselves into the pop song skyline. The
best writers in the genre have a gift for profound simplicity and direct
communication coupled with an ability to make three chords sound like the
most important thing in the world. Chicago’s KEVIN LEE is one of
those writers. Kevin crafts highly melodic pop/rock and roll songs in a
modern context. His sound is a mix of old-school musical chops, vocal
ability, and present-day guitar edge. His current music draws comparisons
to Cheap Trick and Gin Blossoms. A powerful singer, guitarist, and
performer, KEVIN LEE is a pure pop pleasure awaiting your discovery.
Followers of crafty guit-pop may
recognize Kevin’s name from his days as Kevin Lee and the Lonesome City
Kings. Signed to MCA, the band worked with Grammy-winning producer Frank
Fillipetti (Foreigner, Kiss) and producer Don Dixon (REM, Smithereens) to
record the album "Restless". The record led to live dates with
Matthew Sweet, Material Issue, and Pearl Jam. The single "Standing in
the Line of Fire" was chosen for an NBA All Stars video, used in the
movie "A Dangerous Woman", and received substantial airplay on
several P1 stations across America. Not content to rest on past
achievements, Lee released his first solo album, "Walk A Mile In My
Shoes", in 1997 on Bubblehaus Records. Lee is also a hard-working
live performer, consistently criss-crossing the Midwest with his band.
Kevin is pleased to announce the
release of his brand new CD, "Loaded", on Chicago-based Big
Blast Records. The record is another long drive through Lee’s pop/rock
landscape that is made all the more enjoyable due to a more highly-evolved
production approach than on his previous efforts. The songs on
"Loaded" could be considered sculpted as much as recorded. One
of the highlights of the new CD is "Right Here With Me", an
emotive, romantic ballad with a strong hook. The album also contains such
car-radio-ready rock and roll numbers as the opening cut "Where Do We
Go From Here?" and "Find A Way", which features a chugging
mid-tempo guitar groove and Beatle-esque melodies.
Fans of powerful pop music would
do well to give KEVIN LEE a listen. His natural tunefulness makes him the
perfect choice for stage, screen, and radio. He has proven himself capable
of performing at the top level of the music industry in the past and his
new CD "Loaded" will again bring him national attention as a
songwriter and performer of the finest kind. If hooky, well-played rock
and roll is what you crave, look no further. KEVIN LEE is what you need.
